PATRYCJA WOJCIECHOWSKA

Resident June 2024

London-based researcher and curator, Patrycja Wojciechowska, holds Masters in Fine Art and Art Education (University of Arts, Poznan) and Certificate in Advanced Studies in Curating  (Zurich University of Arts).  Her CAS thesis proposed understanding of spectators’  bodies’ performative properties as an experiential activation of  the bodily in the context of art experience and the process of  meaning production.

She co-curated the group exhibition “games.fights.encounters”, developed as a tentative investigation on the tension field between different forms of activism and politically engaged video art at the OnCurating Project Space in Zurich in 2020.

Interested in the Duchampian category of Infrathin, Wojciechowska sees creative practice as an alternative form of investigation to one ruled by scientific inquiry, and a way of working based acceptance of chance. She runs an ongoing interview project, “‘Discrete life of the Infrathin”.

In defiance of  ever accelerating pace of work, pressures  to produce immediate results and fast if not immediate physical manifestations affecting her profession, she chooses to work “slow,” letting her research to accumulate and grow according to natural rhythms of her practice, where  connections between explored ideas, relations and collaborations develop at pace, through working together, consolidating, evolving and surviving.

Her take is rooted in conviction that art production and experience happen in context, coming into being through complex entanglements and relationships. She proposes emancipation through practice of undefinable language of poetry, an act of respiration, a breath and attunement to cosmic vibration of the world.

Her time at Domus will be the first instance of the project  “(An)Other Breath. “(An)Other Breath” is an invitation to explore, through a series of events and presentations, poetry as means of political, social and individual emancipation. It is equally a research and art project with a plethora of nomadic offsite events. The project’s concept and formula is open to partnerships and collaborations.
