Domus Artist Residency_in residence is a shared residency programme for artists, curators and researchers at DOMUS headquarters located via Arco Cadura 16 in Galatina, in the Salento area. The programme is open to everyone, the only requirement to apply is the submission of a project created for your time at the Domus Artist Residency_in residence.
DOMUS is an international residency for contemporary art and research. DOMUS is a house in the historical centre of the baroque town of Galatina (LE), in the heart of Puglia. Founded in 2019 and entirely dedicated to the Mediterranean DOMUS is characterised by a transversal, inclusive and eco-feminist approach to gender issues, environment and migration flow. The residency uses its spaces as a place for sharing, processes creation and dialogue, with the participation of international guests and partners.
The Puglia region and its territory, in the heart of the Mediterranean, represent a relevant field of observation to analyse relations of care and power under the prism of human vulnerability and ecology:
the Tarantism phenomenon: a local practice aiming at excluding "rebellious" women, allegedly bitten by the tarantula, from public life (phenomenon that no longer occurs).
the death of olive trees affected by rapid desiccation, CoDiRo, due to the proliferation of the Xylella Fastidiosa bacterium (appeared around 2013). Thousands of olive trees have died and now offer the spectacle of a landscape of desolation.
After our 2021 edition Dialoghi sul Mediterraneo I The Last Supper Project, we started the In_Residency programme inviting artists, curators and researchers in human and social sciences to develop their research and production on the territories of the South and the Mediterranean, crossing their practices and disciplines.
