Melissa Godoy Nieto, is a Mexican-born artist working in textiles, drawing, painting, installation, and performance. Through her work she explores the subconscious, identity, adaptation, transformation, and environmental stewardship. Her research-based approach delves into the relationship between culture and environment, unraveling the human experience, and our connection with the natural world. In her drawing performance series “Buscando…” she creates an environment where she embraces a range of mediums, including those she brings with her and those found on-site, such as soil, sand, water, ink, salt, minerals, wax, fruits, and other pigment-like materials. This mark-making ritual becomes a tactile dialogue and a reflection of humanity's relationship with the essence of our Earth.
