MAalex (*2019) is an artistic and curatorial duo composed of Martina Pizzigoni and Alessia (Alex) Fallica. Their mission is to explore contemporary issues by analyzing the context through its social and anthropological nuances. With a constant focus on relationships, engagement, and interactivity—and an emphasis on digital technologies—MAalex works across various media and formats, selecting the most effective means to achieve their communicative goals.
MAalex uses art as a tool to provoke thought and challenge the contemporary world, rejecting the purely aesthetic rules of the current art system and elevating the discourse to a political and functional level. Their works encompass a wide range of artistic expressions, from immersive installations to participatory experiences and site-specific pieces. The aim is to push the audience out of their comfort zone, forcing them to confront the most pressing issues of our time.
As MAalex continues to evolve and experiment in the fields of art and curatorial practice, their work remains a testament to their dedication to fostering critical conversations and social reflection. Their current research focuses on the paradigms of digital cultures, with particular attention to the shifting of our identities from the physical world to virtual spaces and the impermanence of our activities and human interactions, now transformed into data within the web's context.
